The Waiting Phase

All through the past week, one question kept coming through to my mind. I found myself asking that question over and over again and the question was this, “How Long More, Lord?”. Each time it came across my mind, I’d feel my heart beat faster because it feels like a question that has no answer.

Many of us are in that waiting phase. The waiting you do when your dreams and hopes have been deferred-again, The waiting you do when you’re offered the opportunity you’ve longed for but have to turn it down, the waiting you do when the future is uncertain and your plans can only be tentative and provisional, The waiting you do for the waiting to be over. And so, the question is this, how do we live this phase of life? Do we complain, cry (I do both sometimes), become bitter, or even throw out the towel?

One of the important exhortations of the Bible is the call to “wait on the Lord.” Even though God promises a special blessing for waiting, waiting is one of the most difficult exhortations of Scripture. It is hard because as humans, we are so prone to take matters into our own hands, to follow our schemes. Our society is one that has grown accustomed to immediate gratification. “A want it now society”

The simple fact is, despite our modern age and our dislike, impatience for waiting, life is full of waiting. It is a vital element in life and until we understand it in the light of the principles and promises of Scripture, we would become fidgety, fearful, frustrated, anxious, and even angry. Waiting involves a passivity and an activity, things we should do, and things we should not do. A few things we should know, constantly do and not do in this phase are highlighted below

    a. The Word of God is Infallible: How we know the word of God cannot fail is because we have seen via the scriptures that what God promised, he has fulfilled in Christ Jesus. The word of God standeth sure. So whatever God has told you concerning that issue, he would do. In the end, it’s always worth the wait

    b. Keep Your Confessions Positive: Life would always through information at us, information contrary to God’s word concerning us but it is our duty to ensure that we put God’s word in our mouth at all times. Two days ago, I was overwhelmed with a lot, loads of thoughts were running on my mind, while I was yet at it, a thought flashed my mind, “When you’re done whining, ensure you speak out the right words’. Right there, I cleaned my face, stood up, and started to speak my reality, God’s word concerning me. This has to be done consciously, continuously, and deliberately. Stay true to God’s word and you will see the exact thing which you believed for. It may not be in the way you envisioned it, but it will come to pass because the Word of God is not just working, it has already WORKED.
